Politicians like Heydar Aliyev are quite rare in the world’s political history. We were born in the same year, in 1923. Therefore, we have practically the same political experience, a tried-and-tested experience proven over the years. I must honestly admit that it was Heydar Aliyev, who due to his democratic views held the most correct position in the leadership of the Soviet Union. Heydar Aliyev was an indispensable politician in resolving the most strategic and geopolitical issues of the Soviet government. Heydar Aliyev’s later leadership of Azerbaijan is build on the grounds of historical legitimacy.

Despite all the obstacles, he managed to turn Azerbaijan into the strongest and leading state of the region in the conditions of great “political games” unfolding for the Caucasus region. It was Heydar Aliyev who laid the foundation of strategic cooperation between the US and Azerbaijan. In general, Heydar Aliyev, as a person, is a phenomenon!

The steps taken by the President of Azerbaijan in the Caucasus are closely watched in the United States. Azerbaijan is a state located in a very complex geographical and political space. The work of President Heydar Aliyev is praiseworthy as he aims to develop relations with the United States and Western countries, as well as he works hard to establish a market economy and democracy. Heydar Aliyev persistently and resolutely fights for the preservation of independence.

For me, it is particularly great contentment that a country to which we attach great strategic and political importance is governed by such a world-famous personality as Heydar Aliyev.
