Four or five years ago, almost all the information provided in the American media presented the Azerbaijani side as the aggressor in the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict. This idea was also defended by many American statesmen and politicians. Now everyone knows that the lands of Azerbaijan were occupied by Armenians, as a result of which more than a million civilians became refugees. Now, everyone knows that Azerbaijani territories have been occupied by Armenians, resulting in more than a million innocent people becoming refugees. It has become evident to everyone that Armenia is the guilty party in this conflict. President Heydar Aliyev’s intelligent diplomacy during his visits to the United States and other foreign countries completely dismantled the negative image of Azerbaijan created by Armenians. The logical answers he provided to journalists’ questions during his foreign trips, his eloquence, and his strong memory played a significant role in this. Heydar Aliyev deliberately maintains sincere communication with journalists during his foreign visits. Journalists, in turn, learn a great deal from this great statesman and convey his ideas to the public through the media.

The policy of President Heydar Aliyev led to the collapse of the information blockade created around Azerbaijan. Meetings of President Heydar Aliyev with President Clinton, Vice President Al Gore and Secretary of State Warren Christopher played a key role in changing the official position of the United States. At these meetings, President Heydar Aliyev was able to convey to them the true nature of the Karabakh conflict and explained the aggressive position of Armenia. Each of these meetings played a unique role in changing the position of American official circles.

In the White House and in general, American politicians highly appreciate the activities of President Heydar Aliyev, saying that he created stability in the country. The United States is well aware that this is a very difficult task for Azerbaijan under the current circumstances. America knows very well that President Heydar Aliyev really wants Azerbaijan’s independence and courageously overcomes all kinds of resistance in order to preserve it. That is why American statesmen prefer to work with Heydar Aliyev. Representatives of the White House believe that Heydar Aliyev really loves his country immensely and dedicated his life to its people, he has no other goal. This is a very important fact. Because there are politicians who come to power, but they have no desire to love or serve their Motherland. These politicians simply come to power for a certain period of time to satisfy their political passion.

When the well-known American politician and statesman Zbigniew Brzezinski arrived in Baku, after meeting with President Heydar Aliyev and opposition representatives, he expressed his opinion in the American press as follows: “Today only Heydar Aliyev can govern Azerbaijan. Stability is the basis of independence and democracy. In the current situation, stability in Azerbaijan can only be maintained by Heydar Aliyev.” According to Brzezinski, in the current situation, Azerbaijan first needs stability, and then democracy. Arriving in Baku, he intended to meet Heydar Aliyev one day. However, due to his interest in the personality of Heydar Aliyev, and because of good mutual understanding between these great politicians, they met four times.

Upon his return to the US, Mr. Brzezinski met with President Clinton and gave him detailed information about his meetings in Azerbaijan. He spoke in the press and brought the real situation in Azerbaijan to the American public’s attention. Brzezinski is a very influential person in the US and his views are highly regarded by Americans.

In the near future, Azerbaijan will get out of a difficult situation. Because Azerbaijan has a strong economic potential and educated specialists in all fields. Most importantly, due to the political stability in Azerbaijan, foreign businesses are showing great interest in the country. If famous companies and businessmen come to a certain country, then this country has a future. I am sure that Heydar Aliyev will ensure this future.
