I am deeply saddened by the death of an outstanding statesman, political and public figure of the Soviet era and independent Azerbaijan, the undisputed and highly influential leader who confidently led the country for more than thirty years, defending the interests of the entire Azerbaijani people.

For Russia, Heydar Alirza oglu Aliyev went down in history as a convinced and active supporter of comprehensive Azerbaijani-Russian relations and the strengthening of the strategic partnership between these two states in the 21st century.
